Amar Singh
Founder, Turbans 4 Australia
Amar Singh was awarded 2023 Australian of the Year Local Hero, 2023 Volunteer Leader of the Year and 2022 Parramatta Citizen of the Year in recognition of his charity work. Amar founded Turbans 4 Australia (T4A) in 2015 to encourage people from migrant communities to volunteer. The charity has a strong focus on multicultural events to promote harmony and religious tolerance.
Amar used his experience as a small transport operator to deliver hay to farmers during the drought in Western NSW, doing a total of 22 trips with truckloads of groceries and bottles of water. In the Black Summer bushfires of 2019, Turbans 4 Australia delivered over 400 pallets of food, personal care items and cleaning products to the NSW South Coast. They set up relief centres in major cities and regions during the covid lockdowns to help people in need.
Turbans 4 Australia distributes 400-450 hampers weekly from their Clyde warehouse and have opened a new warehouse in Thomastown Victoria. The charity’s social enterprise, Green & Gold Charity Logistics, picks up and delivers donations.
